One (1) year of experience performing paraprofessional library duties or closely related experience. Specialized courses/training equivalent to the completion of one (1) year of college in library science, literature, or a closely related field preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. Library Assistants assigned to the Phoebus Library are required to have a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Additional Requirements May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends. May require local travel and use of a personal vehicle. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules for a complete job description.
